Andrew Jackson and his Chicago to Detroit "BIG DIG"

First of all, I apologize for the condition of this article, it was a horrible scan... In this June 5th 1830 article from Niles Weekly Register, Andrew Jackson approves a road to be built from Chicago to Detroit for $8,000. That is 282 miles at .28 cents a mile! Boston's BIG DIG was 1.7 billion dollars per mile. That figure was from 2000, so we all know it is much more than that, but we will use that figure. That is a little more than $10,000 a centimeter. At the Andrew Jackson rate, he could have built a road to the moon and back TWICE.
